Til Ke Laddu (Sesame Seed Sweet Balls)

Updated: Jan 28, 2019

Don't they look delicious?

For those who do not know #Laddoo/#Laddu is a sphere shaped sweet from the Indian subcontinent. There are different types of #laddu, most popular one's are #Besan #Laddu, #Motichoor #Laddu.

I always wanted to start my blogger journey with a "sweet recipe", so, what could be better than Til Ke Laddu for such #cold weather? They'll keep you warm and are extremely easy to make, yet delicious. In #India, #sweets are considered auspicious on any occasion, whether its a festival, marriage, or a new start for something. So, here comes the recipe of a sweet I made for my new beginning as a blogger.

I made these for #GaneshChaturthi (Sakat Chauth).

List of Ingredients:

  1. Full Cream Milk - 2 US qt (slightly less than 2 liters).

  2. Sesame Seeds (Til) - 3.5 cups.

  3. Sugar - 3 cups (can be adjusted depending on personal preference).

Easy to follow steps:

Pour milk into a heavy base pan, you can also use non-stick pan as well if you want to. Keep it on high flame and bring it to a boil. Lower the flame to medium, the idea here is to reduce milk to a point that only milk solid (Mawa/Khoya) is left. Keep stirring in between and let it be on medium flame.

2 qt milk.

Keep stirring so it doesn't stick at the bottom. As you can see in the picture milk is reduced to half the quantity. Let it boil until it starts to thicken. If you don't want to make fresh khoya/mawa you can use store bought khoya as well (500 gms) and cook it in a pan until it softens. But fresh khoya will bring an absolute different taste to the laddu, that's why I prefer making it at home.

Milk reduced to half.

Finally when all the moisture evaporates you will be left with this consistency of milk solid, this is what is called (Mawa/Khoya). Let it cool and meanwhile let's move on to roasting til (sesame seeds).

Milk Solid (Mawa/Khoya)

Roast til (sesame seeds) on medium flame until they are nice and brown then put them into a blender jar once they are at room temperature. Grind them coarse, don't make fine powder.

Now, mix ground sesame seeds (til) in mawa (milk solid) and add sugar.

Roll the laddu with your palms, if mixture sticks to your hand you can apply little bit of ghee/unsalted butter to your palms this will help you make proper shape. While making shape if you find it hard to roll or if you feel mixture is loose to make the shape you can keep it in refrigerator for a while and then try.

Enjoy the treat!

And here's the final product!

Hope you liked the recipe and didn't find it too difficult. Let me know how the laddus turned out for you. Don't forget to subscribe for more updates. Leave a comment for any questions/thoughts. Talk to you in my next mouthwatering recipe!
